What is Fandom Con you may ask me?
Fandom Con: Is a Fan's Paradise!
A Fandom Con is essentially a convention dedicated to celebrating and exploring various fandoms.
Think of it as a massive gathering of people who share a common love for something, whether it's a TV show, movie, book series, video game, or even a specific genre like sci-fi or fantasy.
These events are packed with exciting activities and opportunities for fans to connect with like-minded people. Here's a glimpse of what you might find at a Fandom Con:
- Cosplay: Fans dress up as their favorite characters from Movies, Amime, novel, TV Series, Gaming often going to great lengths to create incredibly detailed costumes and offer amazing performances in public.
- Panels and Q&A sessions: Guests, including known actors, writers, and creators, participate in discussions about their work and offer a sneak peek at what's coming next.
- Autograph signings and photo ops: Fans can meet their idols and get their memorabilia signed and take pictures.
- Merchandise: There's usually a bustling marketplace selling everything from t-shirts and posters to exclusive collectibles.
- Contests and competitions: From cosplay contests to trivia challenges, there's always something to participate in have fun, and win gifts.

Tara: Please, introduce yourself and the Fandom Con 2024 Team. Who made the organization this year. Who people are? What is your goal?
Gem: Hello Tara, I am Gem Sunkiller, SL Fandom Con Event Coordinator. Any organization is only as good as the people working together to give it wings, it's a team effort! Our Region Builders are Auric, Kaerri Rae, Rafe Odinson, Nell Absinthe, EchoRayne Ayashi, Kylavalan Taurus and Jenny Anatine. Deanna Lancaster, Jaun Boucher, and KnutViking have been instrumental in bringing about our Entertainment!
Velorum Cerulean provided copywriting skills, and lastly, our website is hosted by Xevian. WyldChild Raven is serving as our Blog Manager this year. So many others have lent their expertise that there is no space to list their names. We are very much One Team, united in this Campaign. SL Fandom Con is an American Cancer Society Mega Event, with the goal of raising awareness and funds. Our goal is to raise USD 15,000.00 during our Convention.
Tara: Please, tell about the general idea of Fandom Con 2024? What regions are, and what visitors can see there?
Gem: SL Fandom Con is a gathering of Fans from across the grid. We identified Fandoms coming from Pop Culture, Cinema, Literature, Music, Sports, and even Comic Books. Within our ranks, you will find Science Fiction Fans, Furry Wrestling Fans, Fantasy Fans, Live Singers, DJs, Tribute Band Fans, Cyberpunk, Pirates, Vikings, Horror Fans, and Creatures from under the sea.
Our Welcome Region is a nod to the great and powerful Wizard of Oz, painting a very futuristic view of a very old tale. It is also the home of our Post Cards, small views into individual fans' interpretation of their Fandom. The First Annual Fandom Film Festival will take place in the Welcome Region, as well as placement of a variety of information about Fandom Con for our visitors.
Sterntaler has its roots in the stories and fairy tales of old, with its central theme coming from the story "Sterntaler" which means Star Money, by the Brothers Grim. There are many corners to explore along with lots of shops to check out.
Wasted Lands is a dystopian futuristic region, fans of Mad Max and Fallout will recognize some of the themes. It is also home to our desert tent marketplace, with many small merchants and information booths. Fans of the DC/Marvel Universe can find a store on Wastelands, as can role-play fans. The Sci-Fi Alliance will be hosting Inter-Stellar eXpeditions, featuring films and music. The Thunderdome stage is also located in the arena area of Wastedlands and will host our Live musicians, karaoke, and our Opening Party.
Nautical is an underwater fantasy world, dive in and explore the shops in that region. It is also home to our Pirates Cove stage, where many DJ parties will take place during Fandom Con. It's a place to have a great time with other Fans of all fandoms.
Headliner's Hallow is a region with a dual purpose. Our Fandom Tribute Band Festival will take place on three stages placed within a haunted amusement park. There is also a nod to 1980's horror movies, and monsters of all kinds. We felt this tie-in with the growing movement for Horror-Cons in the real world was something we did not want to miss. Each of our ACS Mega events has displays on this region as well, pause in your exploration and check out all the opportunities for participation there.
Tara: Please, tell me about the Fandom Con 2024 schedule. What an interesting list to see, what events to visit, where people can take part and give support for charity funds?
Gem: We will be opening with a party at the Thunderdome Stage, music and merriment will mingle with welcomes and information. From that point on we have over 100 hours of entertainment and activities planned, basically, there is something for everyone. Residents can visit our regions, where there are many opportunities to donate to our campaign for the American Cancer Society.

The stars see this and shower her in silver coins for her kind heart and nature of being so selfless. I think it's a great allegory for our cause.

Tara: What is your Inspiration for creating your Fandom world? What is the Story behind your building?
Kaerri: Sterntaler is named after the Brothers Grim tale about an orphan girl who has nothing but a loaf of bread and clothes on her. It's about her pure nature and goodness of heart, and she gives all of it away, even her underwear, to others who are in need. The stars see this and shower her in silver coins for her kind heart and nature of being so selfless. This is so symbolic of what we do for the ACS every time we drop a Linden in a kiosk
Tara: Is there any secrets or interesting places or inner events at your sim, what visitors must see/find/explore/try/take a part in?
Kaerri: Each outer corner of the sim has secrets. There's a Wizard of Oz-themed area, a fairytale village, a fairy forest, and a dragon park.
Tara: Do you have your own brand/shop? Can you tell me a few words about it? What do you create and what style do you like more?
Kaerri: My own store is a little of everything house & garden, I make flower arrangements and furniture, mostly modern:)

Rafe's Personal brand: Odinson Studios
A dystopian wasteland, with a blend of Dune, Fallout, Starwars, and Tattoine, among others in the representations. An Arena will house the stage for our live singers, as well as room for dancing. Vendors will be located in the Arena to promote more visibility. I anticipate this region being used during Fallout Takeover Day for some light, nonmortal, combat.

Rafe Odinson (Rafe.Grumpypants), Wastelands region co-builder
Tara: What is your Inspiration for creating your Fandom world? What is the Story behind your building?
Rafe: I have always been a big fan of environments like Wastelands with dystopian/Post-apocalyptic vibes. I have been an avid roleplayer (and gamer) for the majority of my adult life and wanted to pay tribute to some of the Fandoms I personally enjoy. Part of roleplaying for me in Second Life has always been the building aspect. I love creating worlds and capturing a specific feeling in what I create and it was really fun (and a bit of a challenge) to work merchants into a build with this more desolate theme. I wanted the guests to cross into our region and feel like they were at an outpost, picking up supplies in a tent city before voyaging to the final destination; our wastelands city and live music venue, the Thunderdome.
Tara: Are there any secrets or interesting places or inner events at your sim, what visitors must see/find/explore/try/take a part in?
Rafe: I was really excited to be given a venue to build within this region. The inspiration for it was loosely based on the Thunderdome from Mad Max. It's not supposed to be a replica obviously. But I wanted the guests to walk in and really feel like they were in an arena ready for a battle of any kind. I have taken liberties to pay tribute to a wide variety of Fandoms that I could envision taking up residence in a war-torn apocalyptic arena whether it was pulling modern, sci-fi, superhero, historical, or fantasy.
Tara: Do you have your own brand/shop? Can you tell me a few words about it? What do you create and what style do you like more?
Rafe: My brand is Odinson Studios. I do the majority of my building for ACS Mega events like Fandom. I am the Captain of the Relay For Life team, The Sugar Skols, and love designing our sim and campsites for relay weekend under our banner. I will also be building one of the regions for The Christmas Expo in December. Because my RFL team is Viking based I would definitely call myself a viking builder but hardly limit myself to that. I like designing highly detailed, large-scale environments from beach getaways to temple sanctuaries to full sim riding tracks. I like to strive for pseudo-realism and really putting a guest in a fully immersive wandering experience.

Tara: What is your Inspiration for creating your Fandom world? What is the Story behind your building?
Jenny: I'm an 80s girl. A person fan of the 80s horror ever since I was young and watched it with my mom. I like to evoke memories...fun ones! Also hopefully to help make new ones.
Tara: Is there any secrets or interesting places or inner events at your sim, what visitors must see/find/explore/try/take a part in?
Jenny: I think its fun to go in each...movie...set. We also have our movie spot...with the posters and Cancer.org upstairs. People should see how many movies they can pick out! Cancer is scary...but together we fight for the cure. Bring friends to 80s Horror Con! AND DONATEEEEEEEEEE!
Tara: Do you have your own brand/shop? Can you tell me a few words about it? What do you create and what style do you like more?
Jenny: I have a music venue and I am captain of Camping for a Cure. I am also the Director of I Pink I Can! When you come on the sim my area is the right half. Ms Kyla from Phoenix Productions has worked out the left side! Come ...bring friends...enjoy the music...memories and so much more!

SL Fandom is hosting a tribute Festival this year.
This event was organised by Kylavalan Taurus, the Owner of Phoenix Productions,
who also sponsor the stages at the festival.

Kyla and Phoenix were placed on the Headliners region.
This region is running a horror theme, so Kyla built the stage areas and surrounded them,
with a haunted theme park. There are rides to enjoy, a haunted house with some particularly gruesome and interactive props inside and you can take a ride on the log flume, where you get a top view of the entire region as the flume travels around.
Over the course of the Fandom event, there are multiple bands playing across
the Phoenix and Demon stage areas.
The Tribute festival kicks off
on August 3rd at Noon SLT and goes on until August the 11th,
with acts performing most days at
Noon SLT, 3PM SLT and 6PM SLT.
Check the groups for who is playing when.
So come on down and have fun at the Tribute Festival and help Fandom raise money

Tara: What is your Inspiration for creating your Fandom world? What is the Story behind your building?
Echo: I brainstormed many underwater themes, trying to think of something unique or not built in SL before. Since the underwater community has become more popular, there's been a boost in spaces being made so I put a lot of ideas to the side. I recently was gifted a game by my partner called "SubNautica" and I've fallen in love with it! I wanted to give that feeling of the crystal clear water, bursting with life, expanses of sand-covered sea floor. Finding the items in SL to create that look was really difficult and I'm still learning to create mesh items myself, so the old faithful ruins came into play here (LOL). so, BEHOLD! the lost elven ruins of an alien planet, covered with water where travellers are lost to waves with their wares....where we merfolk like to hoard those goodies hahaha
Merfolk is known for, in stories, hoarding and collecting shiny and interesting items lost in the sea. The booths are like our grottos, the lost ruins of an old world that we use for ourselves now to keep our treasures (The merchant's products!)
Tara: Is there any secrets or interesting places or inner events at your sim, what visitors must see/find/explore/try/take a part in?
Echo: Despite popular folklore about merfolks, there are no secrets here! Vast, open space, crystal waters, and schools of vibrant fish! Make sure you say hello to our sharks, they are friends! not food! LOL On the surface, however, we have our pirate ship, docked and stocked and ready to party! Keep an ear out on the wind for any DJs and events to be held during Fandom Con to listen to some fantastic artists and mixers!
Tara: Do you have your own brand/shop? Can you tell me a few words about it? What do you create and what style do you like more?
Echo: I have only ever created a handful of items for my store, Echo Design, but it's been a while! I like to encourage other creators with the skills and the drive to create more for the aquatic community. I started a group, The Aquatic Council of Second Life, in hopes of providing a common space for all the ocean lovers on the grid to meet and celebrate their creations, homes, and achievements and to provide opportunities to combine our many MANY aquatic groups for events such as Fandom Con. This group is still growing and I hope more people join who have the intentions of bringing encouragement and motivation to the many wonderful people of our community, whether you create or simply enjoy and appreciate what created, the aquatics of SL are known for their kind and welcoming nature and I hope everyone gets the opportunity to experience that!

PILGRIMAGE. Tribute to Paulo Coelho.
"Pilgrimage" is my favorite book by Coelho. Once, Viktor and Orpheus embarked on a virtual journey through the book, reliving the scenes, capturing moments, and creating an art project called "PILGRIMAGE." This project allows others to experience the spiritual journey on their own. It was their way of expressing gratitude to Paulo Coelho, and they are happy to share this experience with everyone. The installation for this project exists in Second Life. Welcome to visit and explore.

The Welcome Region will be inspired by The Wizard of Oz, the Post Card builds will be located on the region, as well as playing host to our War of the Worlds Multimedia Event (on a platform)
Shops/Booths will not be located on this region.
