Introduction from Heather
(A detailed guide)
General explanation of concepts: BOM, Bento, System Skin, ALPHA.....???
Yes, it could be clearer. Second Life is an old environment - as computer software goes - but has been constantly updated, yet still allows users to use older technology. As a result, it is sometimes hard to keep ideas and products straight.
The first thing to realize is that avatars come in two basic formats. The initial format was set up to display and be animated on the day's computers, but this required compromising the avatar's Level of Detail (LOD). Those same avatars are the current Default selection of avatars you choose from when first signing up for Second Life (SL). Since then, a newer format of the 3D structure of avatars, which also allowed a higher LOD and faster display or animation is used to create the various brands of "Mesh" bodies, including the Ultra Vixen. To reiterate; the older avatar bodies are now called the "Default or System or Classic" while the new format bodies are called "Mesh". This 3D mesh is the first part of your avatar. It basically looks like a chicken wire frame before the game engine applies a graphic skin.
The next part of the avatar is the "Skin" file, which is made up of three 2D flat graphic images, ultimately wrapped around the surface of the 3D structure. Advanced users may also adjust other properties of their skin. You must always wear a skin. A skin file can not be removed but only replaced. "System Clothes" are additional graphics worn over top of the skin and end up looking just like "skin painting" on a Real Life fashion model.
When the first generations of Mesh Bodies came along, they would be worn over top of the default body which in turn was hidden from view using a special graphic called an Alpha. These first Mesh bodies could not use the system skins. However, the newest technology - called "Baked ON Mesh" (BOM) - is a setting that allows the newer Mesh bodies to fully replace the old default bodies and applies the skin file directly to them, with no Alpha needed. BOM also allows people to use all the old System Clothes, tattoos, makeup, scars, etc, - layering them over the skin like layers in Photoshop or like paintings on successive layers of glass.
The Ultra Vixen is a BOM Mesh Body, mapped to conform with the Standard Second Life avatar skin layout. This means you can use any of thousands of skins already available in Second Life. The skins supplied with this body are example skins, meant to get you started until you find skins to match your personal style. Note that when first ADDing your body components or different skin files, the computer will need to process the mesh and graphic, so there will be a momentary lag and your avatar may turn gray until the graphics are ready.
Bento is the name of the new Armature format. An armature is a collection of virtual bones within the 3D mesh structure of your avatar. Each bone has properties that make it adjust the shape of the mesh it is responsible for, and move the mesh during animation. There is a special Body Shape Editing window within SL that allows you to customize the proportions of your body via slider bars, with the result being saved to a Shape File. The Shape File is a critical component of your avatar and can never be removed, only replaced.
The Ultra Vixen body packages come with a sampling of Body Shape files optimized to bring out the best in this body. These are a great starting point for your avatar and can be customized later. When customizing, always use the SAVE AS button and add a version number to create a new file. Never overwrite your shape file. You may need to go to a previous version if your results are not what you expected.
The Bento armature contains extra bones compared to the original. These additional bones include all the finger joints and more in the head. This allows for improved facial expressions, as well as hand and finger animations. To observe these movements, use any in-world animation or AO that includes Bento data. If you happen to select an older pre-Bento animation, the fingers will be spread or locked.
The Ultra Vixen body packages include custom handmade "Physics". The Physics file includes information that will give your avatar a jiggle and bounce that simulates the effects of gravity and inertia on your body's movements. Every mesh body has slight differences in both base shape and "looseness" as they respond to physics. Therefore different bodies will look different even while wearing the same "Shape File". And they will also jiggle and bounce to different level degrees. A physics that looks good with one brand of mesh, may do next to nothing with a different brand of body, or be crazy wild with yet another brand. The physics and shape files I supply are optimized to bring out the best in the Ultra Vixen body, so please wear these as a starting point.
Please note that different brands of avatars are "Rigged" differently, thus animation results will be inconsistent.
Therefore always first try animation demos before purchase.
How to wear the Ultra Vixen avatar components
Step-to-step guide.
Step 0 - Detach all mesh items from your avatar, and any Alphas (if worn).
You need to see your avatar as just a nude classic avatar, only with hair and eyes remaining before you start.
This is my defailt avatar I got when I came in SL in the first time
Deattach all alphas and mesh. I left Arkona modesty to cover private parts.
Step 1 - Wear one of the sample skins.
Or if you already have a "System" skin you like, you may substitute that one. Note that, how the skin is painted will have huge effects on how the face looks, even before makeup is applied.
Also note that if you are wearing a skin that can not be shared across different body brands, and you skip this step before adding the Ultra Vixen body parts, then your avatar will turn red.
So wear one of the supplied skins or a system skin before moving on.
Step 2 - Wear the Head.
This is the BOM Bento mesh head. It will appear with the exact same skin the classic head had on, but this mesh has a higher mesh detail. Be sure to also wear one of the optional Eyelashes.
Step 3 - ADD the body components.
If two or more 3D objects are attached to the same bone, then using the WEAR button to put on a second item, removes the first.
These components are all attached to the same bone. So instead of "Wear", right-click the item with your mouse, and a menu will show, then select ADD.
Do this for all the Step 3 components. This is the "ADD method". Pick one of the body files: Busty, Perky, or Flat Chested.
Then use ADD to put on one of the optional feet, and ADD one of the fingernail files also.
Note that feet are NOT Bento animated like hands, therefor fixed shapes in differing stances are used.
Step 4 - Wear a body shape.
I have provided several optional body shapes based on female body types that are optimized for use with the Ultra Vixen. Choose one, or try any of them.
You can also copy and modify these later, or use your own shape.
Step 5 - Wear the Physics.
Again, these physics are optimized for use with the Ultra Vixen, and to the various breast sizes of the shape files. The game engine will only let you use one of these at a time.
Step 6 - Unpack the container of clothes
in the same way as the original avatar package. You will receive a new folder of clothes and shoes. This package includes items for all three bodies: Busty, Perky, or Flat Chested.
Wear dresses or tops that include the word, "Busty" or "Perky" or "Flat" in the file name - depending on which body version you use.
Shoes and boots will also include which foot stance they are fitted for.
ADD makeup, eyebrows, etc
Done, you are an Ultra Vixen. You may now experiment with tattoo layers, other skins, or with lingerie layer clothing. You can also purchase Mesh Clothes made just for the Ultra Vixen avatar in my Marketplace shop. Creator Heather has already made over 200 items, and all have many fabric options.
P.S. You may edit SHAPE for your taste.

Common Questions and Answers
As I used this body for the first time, some things were not understandable for me and I asked Heather about it. I hope these tips will be useful for you too.
Tara: How I can change nail colors?
Heather (heatherd.tungsten): You can do it in Edit mode, just like when you change the color of a cube.
It's actually faster than waiting for a Hud to rez, or you can replace the nails with the ones you have in the Body folder. And since these are set to Copy and Modify, you can even paint new designs in Photoshop if you like. It was a huge amount of work to make this body skin layout conform to the System BOM texture mapping.
Tara: this body can be a good option, a first body for newcomers. they can explore avatar possibilities and experiment with many things
Heather (heatherd.tungsten): Yes, and I have been working hard to improve it. And will further update it as I learn more. So I am hoping many will make it their full-time body too.
Tara: Does this body have alpha? how to hide body parts?
Heather (heatherd.tungsten): Like all mesh bodies, the mesh clothes must be custom-designed and rigged just for that body. That is why you have to check what brands are included in each package of clothes you buy. So the Ultra Vixen body used clothes made for the Ultra Vixen body, available at my shop and a couple of other designers.
The mesh is made to fit perfectly so there is no poke-through of mesh. Further, many of the clothes use partly see-through textures. If you hide a part of the body while wearing these, you will see the hole. So no Alpha's have ever been designed.
Further, if you put this body into the clothes of a different body, then you also not be seeing the body shape of your Ultra Vixen. You would see the other avatar shape.
An extreme example of that would be to wear only the clothes - neck to toe - of a different body, hide yours, and wear only a head over all that. You can't hide body parts of the Ultra Vixen body. And all the clothes fit perfectly - so you don't need to hide body parts.
Tara: OK, I understand, but I am a stylist and I enjoy mixing and matching items on my avatar to create a new look. if I can't hide body parts, it means I can't use clothes and items I want to wear and I will have CLIPPING all the time.
Heather (heatherd.tungsten): You will never get a good fit if you wear clothes made for other bodies.
Tara: I already did it with excellent results, so I know, it is possible, at least when you mix and match different items.
Heather (heatherd.tungsten): For example, the Ultra Vixen has very curvy hips. If you wear pants of a different brand of body, then the hips will stick out. But if you Alpha hide the hips, then you lose the curvy shape - losing why you are using an Ultra Vixen body in the first place.
When you are experimenting with this body and the fashion, then maybe it could help if I was there and saw what you are doing. So I understand that the lack of an Alpha Hud is a big negative for you. But for girls using the Perky or Busty torso, other brands of clothes simply won't work anyway, so they don't see the lack of a Hud as a problem.
Plus I work hard to make my clothes to be designed so that you can mix and match them. Like wearing the bodysuit under the pants or skirt, without poke through. I create designs with a wide usefulness and mix and match since I am trying to add a style people could use most times. Since all the clothes sold as part of a fat pack are set to copy and modify, then you can change the color to match the Flexi item you are using.
Thank you for your answers. I hope this information helps many people utilize their bodies optimally.
